Satellite vehicle monitoring system

Today's electronics make not only our life easier, but are more and more used to provide safety. Advanced vehicle monitoring systems emerged on our Polish market not long ago. Several companies offer professional electronic location of vehicles. The common characteristic of these systems is finding and transmitting the vehicle location. Depending on additional options, the systems can range from anti-theft protection, over planning logistics, up to managing and supervising the operation of vehicles and work of drivers.

One of the most popular location systems is based on well known and widely used standards - the GPS (Global Positioning System) and GSM cellular telephones. The first one (GPS) enables accurate location of the vehicle on any part of the globe. The GPS receiver installed in the car or truck analyses signals coming from at least three satellites 'visible' at the same time, and on the basis of differences in arrival time of their radio waves it reckons its own position, velocity, and curse. The second standard (GSM) enables and provides transmitting these data to the Control Centre. Applying both technologies makes it possible to monitor objects all over Europe.

We are one of the few companies who in Poland are manufacturing a complete system for vehicle location. We exist since 1988. All elements of the system, viz. the software, city plans, reference stations, GPS controllers, terminals, various detector types - are engineered and manufactured by us.

Our very flexible approach to the data transfer medium by providing different interfaces enables connection not only to the GSM network, but also to conventional radio-telephones, as well as to trunking systems. This makes it possible, among other, monitoring in the same system both the anti-theft functions for individual customers (based on GSM), as well as managing and supervision of company's intervention groups (who operate using e.g. conventional, or trunking radio-telephones).

Dear Customers, our newest Object Monitoring System SMOK is based on the most modern data transmission system GPRS in GSM cellular phone networks. Our system makes it possible to monitor your vehicles using further the conventional or trunking radio communication systems.

The GPRS consists in establishing a link between a GSM phone installed in the object controller and the base (Control Centre) using the Internet. Using GPRS data transfer, the Customer does not pay for the time of the connection but for the quantity of transferred data, in packs of 10 kB or 100 kB. That technology makes it possible to maintain continuous connection with the monitored objects for a relatively small charge.

The object or vehicle controllers are fitted with professional industrial type GSM modules, warranting correct operation irrespectively of the time and external operating conditions. These controllers can be connected with an IMAGE interface, which in its basic version is linked with four video cameras. Pictures taken by these cameras can be transmitted directly from the object to the monitor of the computer in the monitoring center. A suitable computer application permits receiving reports, controlling, and managing the objects in real time.

The superiority of GPRS controllers installed in vehicles or fixed objects over hitherto installed devices, both SMS and radio type ones, is featured by low operation costs. It makes it possible to transmit simultaneously test and control reports with an adjustable frequency of even every 5 seconds. There is no danger of 'choking' the base station, as the channel by which data are fed to the base is an Internet line. The GPRS controller, when connected to cameras, enables quick verification of every alarm signal, which feature in the case of distant objects and few intervention crews is very important both logistically and economically. The described controllers can also be used to monitor company's personnel - where they are at a given time, and what are they doing.

The GPRS technology can also be used successfully in vehicle GPS/GPRS controllers. When monitoring vehicles, the basic advantage is low operational cost. Until now, each single 'questioning' of a vehicle equaled the cost of one SMS, e.g. 0.30 Zloty, while in the GPRS technology it is possible to monitor the vehicle at the same cost, depending on the operation mode, for 12 hours with a location refreshing frequency of every two minutes (assuming a continuous GPRS session). Wanting to clear operation accounts with the driver and the vehicle ('road card'), one can at any moment do a remote reading of the 'black box'. At present, unfortunately, due to missing roaming contracts, it is still necessary to use SMS messaging for vehicle location purposes when a vehicle is abroad.

The vehicle controller offered by our Company is fitted with a GPS receiver of MOTOROLA. Information on the location of the vehicle, its velocity and time, together with other detector data, are stored in the inner memory of the controller, or transmitted to the Centre, following the pre-set algorithm. The way in which a vehicle is protected depends on the know-how and experience of the installing service man. The standard system has eight inputs to which detectors of any type can be connected, like ones for car alarm, door opening, assault push button, or e.g. refrigeration temperature drop detectors.

The vehicle controllers are also provided with 'active protection' elements, i.e. output circuits by which the Control Centre can remotely control the vehicle and its safety devices, e.g. switch-in the immobilizer, cut-off fuel supply, or activate an alarm siren, lights etc. A standard facility is also the possibility to connect a hidden microphone, for possible voice transmission from the vehicle cabin. Other vehicle facility versions offer an alarm function which is being activated when the vehicle leaves the standard route, does not keep the set rate of distance negotiating, or moves outside the set zone at unauthorized times of the day.

We mentioned here only the main functions of the vehicle controller, out of very numerous ones. The configuration and many technical possibilities of the Control Centre are designed for continuous monitoring and managing vehicles which move over the territory of Europe. Using specialized software, the operator can gain access to several data on the object being monitored. That application is also responsible for receiving alarm signals, transmitting orders, as well as archive storage of all system data.

Another characteristic feature of our system is the network structure of the Control Centre software. It enables:
  • modular expansion of the system for additional monitoring posts - when the number of protected vehicles and fixed object increases,
  • installing Internet servers for GPRS transmission,
  • connecting any number of data receiving terminals by GPRS,
  • modular connection to the system of controllers for different transmission media.

An unquestionable distinguishing mark of our product is the circumstance that all elements of the system are manufactured in Poland, which enables us to react swiftly to novelties on the telecommunication market and new requests of Customers; this means today - assimilate innovations in the GSM network, the MMS technology, and TETRA in radio communication.

Since many years we assumed a promotion technique unheard-of at our competitors - the system is almost never sold in standard version, but always adapted to individual Customer's needs. So, our Customer can request special options in the Control Centre software and a configuration of vehicle controller functions adapted to his own wishes. The systems manufactured by us are operating with success in institutions as different from one other, as: the Police, ambulances, power companies, road administration, bus and tram services, City Guards, as well as transportation and forwarding companies.
